Weekends at Craft MNL are a cacophony of crafty and creative chaos.  But last weekend was a weekend of firsts.

Apart from last weekend being our very first Urban Mom Mommy Maker Day at Fully Booked, we also had our very first rubber stamping class with Alex Paredes of Rubber Ducky Stamp Co.!

Our morning session was packed with happy and friendly stampers, who whiled away their time carving the fanciful, the whimsical and the kawaii.

Stamping isn't just for paper, you know.

As you can see, we even learned (or relearned, considering the sentimentality of star stamps for good behavior in kindergarten) new methods of applying stamps.

Our afternoon stampers. They finished six stamps each!

All in all, I’d say Alex’s first foray into teaching stamp-making was a stamping success (we’re feeling especially pun-ny today)!  On Sunday, we had the privilege of entering through the employee’s entrance at Fully Booked High Street to set up for the first session of our Urban Mom Mommy Maker Day (we were privy to the pre-store opening calmness).  The calmness we experienced though was a prelude to the happy crush of mommies and their mini-makers!

Yay, the end of a great mother-daughter bonding activity.

Approximately ten dolls, and three hours later (with the fabulous Mommy Jac of I am Handmade by Mom), we prepared for our screen printing session with Hocus!  Andrei and Sheina did a demonstration of the process of preparing a screen, and everyone got their turn in screen printing their very own two-color posters!  This special session was different from our usual sessions at our workshop, given the afternoon’s schedule, and the lack of a sink (which Andrei and Sheina splendidly made do without), but each participant left with an understanding of the photographic emulsion process of transferring designs on screens, and the knowledge of how multi-colored prints are made.

The evening was a more serious (but no less creative) session on the ins and outs of turning your crafting passion into an online business on the world’s leading handmade marketplace, Etsy (Did you know where the name Etsy came from?  We now do!), and wrapped up the evening with wisdom from Nikki of Junkstudio.

It was a full weekend, indeed.  And as a weekend of firsts, the collaborations and new activities stand to be the first of many.  Check out the full album of Stamp Right Now and The Urban Mom Mommy Maker Day.  Check out our Instagram too!  For last Sunday’s event, we used the hashtag #mommymakerday.  Thank you to everyone who came, to our awesome facilitators for sharing their knowledge and expertise, and to Mommy Mundo and Fully Booked!

Cheers!
