Let your kids learn a new Pinoy craft this summer!

Mary from Takatak Project is coming to the studio for a workshop on takas / traditional Laguna paper mache.   Your kids will discover how crafters make takas from wooden sculptures and paint summery paper mache figures they can use toys or decor.

Inclusions of this workshop

  • An introduction to Paete, Laguna and the crafts of the town
  • A live demo of how the traditional paper mache taka horse is made using wooden sculptures as molds
  • Traditional painting techniques
  • Painting with patterns
  • Decoupage
  • Free painting


Each participant gets a kit with the following

  • 1 taka horse
  • 2 paper mache popsicles
  • 2 paper mache fruits
  • 1 sea animal
  • 2 brushes
  • 1 paint palette

Students may bring their finished artwork after the class.

The workshop fee of PHP 1,800 is inclusive of the take home kit above, as well as the use of decoupage materials.

Kids from 1-15 are welcome. Please note that kids under the age of  6 will need an adult to join him or her. A maximum of 10 kids can join the workshop.

About the Instructor


Mary Velmonte is a former advertising professional turned full- time crafter.  She founded Takatak Project in order to sustain the art of making paper mache figures in Paete Laguna.  Ensuring future generations get to enjoy this craft, by making it part of contemporary conversations of  kids, educators, artists and entrepreneurs.
