Baybayin is for the Tagalog of Luzon, Surat Mangyan is for the Hanunuo of Mindoro
This three-hour session with Leo Emmanuel Castro of Sanghabi will help participants learn how to read and write Surat Mangyan, the syllabic script of the Hanunuo of Mindoro.
Surat Mangyan is one of the Philippines’ four living scripts, the other three being Buhid also of Mindoro, and the Palaw’an and Tagbanwa scripts of Palawan.
Surat Mangyan continues to be taught to Mangyan children in DepEd-run schools and is used to write the Ambahan, the poetry form of the Hanunuo. The Ambahan is usually written on bamboo and is chanted.
Session fee is PHP 500.00 inclusive of all materials to be used. Only up to 15 participants will be accommodated.
The available session date for the month of February at our studio in Makati–Unit 302, 926 Pasay Road Condominium (Pamana-Languages Building), Arnaiz Avenue (Pasay Road, behind New World Hotel) is:
